QR Codes!

March 2, 2010

Doo-doo-dooo-dooo, doo-doo-dooo-dooo…Forget the Twilight Zone, this is real world stuff! QR codes, aka Quick Response, are quite possibly the next big thing to hit the US! These codes allow a viewer to take a quick snapshot of it with their smart phone and it will relay all sorts of information directly and instantly to the viewer’s phone! It’s already totally mainstream in Japan, made it’s way to Europe and it’s now starting to gain momentum here with the popularity of the iPhone and the new Droid. Heck, even my old (we’re talking summer 2008!) AT&T Tilt
phone is even QR capable now that I’ve downloaded the necessary software onto it!

Okay so what do I mean when I say ‘all sorts of information’? Well, anything you want basically – a message, contact information, map location, or have it linked directly to your store website or facebook fan page! A viewer just needs
to have QR code software on their phone to read it – pretty much standand on newer smart phones, but downloadable for older models.

Websites like www.i-nigma.com allow you to create QR codes, keep track of your results and download the QRcode software to your smart phone. There are many other websites offering the same, like www.qrstuff.com or www.quickmark.com.tw – just google QR code for pages and pages of websites and info.

Why is this all of this soooo exciting?! Imagine what you can do with it! Put this little code on the back of your plant tags or on a plant poster or product packaging – people can take a picture of it and it will lead them directly to your website for coupons or complimentary products to their purchase or further instructions on how to care for their new plant…very exciting indeed!
